Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP) is a type of psychotherapy that involves the use of ketamine, a dissociative anesthetic, as an adjunct to traditional talk therapy. It is used to treat several different mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, and addiction.
During a ketamine-assisted therapy session, the patient is given a controlled dose of ketamine through an IV infusion. This helps induce a state of relaxation, increased self-awareness, and emotional introspection. The therapist then uses this enhanced state of consciousness to guide the patient through various therapeutic exercises and talk therapy.
Many patients already have a therapist, whom they know and trust and have been referred to receive ketamine as an adjunct to their psychotherapy anyway. However, KAP may be an option for you if you still feel like you’re not getting your desired results. You absolutely can keep your primary therapist but may want to add a KAP session to one or all your ketamine treatments.
We recommend all patients receiving ketamine therapy to regularly and actively participate in psychotherapy. If you do not have a therapist currently, then we can help provide this service to you as an added benefit.
If you do not have a therapist currently, then we can help provide this service to you as an added benefit. We currently work closely with and recommend Dillon Welliver of Blue Sky Therapeutic Services and Kristi Damron of Damron Counseling for KAP.
